Topic 11: Two-Dimensional Shapes and Their Attributes
TOPIC 11: Two-Dimensional Shapes and Their Attributes
Domain: Geometry
Common Core State Standards include:
3.G.1: Understand that shapes in different categories may share attributes, and that the shared attributes can define a larger category.
3G.2: Partition shapes into parts with equal areas. Express the area of each part as a unit fraction of the whole.

Lesson 11.1-Lines and Line Segments
VOCABULARY:
POINT- An exact point.
LINE- A set of points that is endless in 2 directions.
LINE SEGMENT- A part of a line with 2 endpoints.
PARALLEL LINES- 2 lines that NEVER cross.
INTERSECTING LINES- 2 lines that cross at ONE point.

LESSON 11-2: ANGLES
VOCABULARY:
RAY- A part of a line with one endpoint
ANGLE- 2 rays with the same endpoint. That endpoint is the VERTEX of the angle.
RIGHT ANGLE- Makes a square corner
PERPENDICULAR- If 2 lines, line segments, or rays make a right angle, they are perpendicular.
ACUTE ANGLE- An angle that is open less than a right angle
OBTUSE ANGLE- An angle that is open more than a right angle

Lesson 11.3- Polygons
A polygon is a closed shape made up of line segments. Each line segment is a side of a polygon. The point where two sides meet is a vertex of the polygon. A line segment that connects two vertices that are not next to each other is a diagonal.
